Why is it changing all my text to a weird alien language? I'm trying to fix my rag and I can't even see what I'm doing now.  Please help!

My text does this every few pages when I am scrolling or updating text. Annoying, I have to go back a page to refresh it. Got latest version of InDesign. Any ideas?

If it's a Mac, disable GPU performance. If not, start a new discussion with full system details. I'm locking this one to avoid future confusion.

Damaged INDD file?

Try to export as IDML then import back and save with new name.

What OS?

What version of InDesign?

What font type did you use?

Looks as if the font is damaged.

Try using a different font and see if the issue goes away.

If it does.

Try reinstall the font in question.

I agree, it looks like a damaged font, or maybe an alternate version of the same font is activated at the same time.

Remove the fonts, and only add the good one.

Alternativly, if the font is in the local "Document Fonts" folder, inDesign should activate that font (if the font is not activated by the OS already)

So weird, looks like all the letters are alternate glyphs. Did you just upgrade? What were you doing right before this happened? What font is the paragraph style set to? If you can send a sample of the text in English, that might help troubleshoot. We could see what letters were being misread, maybe there's a pattern.

Try zooming in or out, or changing the page. Is the content normal again?

If not, please tell us what version of InDesign and what operating system.

Is your screenshot showing the way that this looks in the InDesign file or is this a scan of a printout? If you're showing a printout then what does it look like in InDesign? Please be specific and provide details.
