Indesign trial is not Uploading my A4 work photoshop into a A4 sized indesign page?

Hi guys and gals. Basically i've just downloaded the trial version of INDESIGN. Got 6 days left.

I don't want to recreate ever single page that i've created on Photoshop as a A4 sized piece.

Every file is saved as PSD and JPEG. and a few in PDF. I've even saved as several different file formats E.G TIFF... And Indesign will not upload ANY file format or export my work properly.

I'm getting annoyed at such a simple process. At this short use of the program, i'm not impressed and refuse to pay £10 a month for such a piece of software that will not import/export a JPEG from one program to the next, just for it to loose it's size between applications by the same company.

As it stands I couldn't recreate the pages as the program isn't letting me drag and drop a JPEG!

Please can somebody shed some light on the subject... Thanks in advance

What is the actual and effective resolution (check with the info panel)? What are your display performance set to? Set it to high quality for the best preview.

I've just managed to sort it out. your advice was spot on. the resolution needed to be changed. but I also found out that when you double click the image you can toggle between the image and the box. That was something I didn't know. Once I adjusted both of those options, yours included; it became un pixelated and clear.

I know I was annoyed originally, it got to me. I'm truly sorry for my original post. Tiredness and frustration played a huge part in that. Just want to say thank you for helping me out.

You don't mention what happens when you try to "upload" an image file. If you were using "Open", you get a clear error message (because "Open" is to open InDesign's own files only). Although I wonder why your second attempt, drag and drop, wouldn't work (AFAIK it ought to).

Try again with "Place"; see How to place, import, and insert images into InDesign

That online help also contains lots of additional tips for most of the basic operations.

Hi Jongware. Thank you for reading about my situation and thank you so much for realising that i'm just trying to figure the program out. I shall try what you say. Won't be a mo.

InDesign is a professional page layout program with a steep learning curve. Don't expect to open it and be able to use it straight away. (For example you Place images not upload them.)

I suggest you take a short course in how to use Indesign such as the online video tutorials on Lynda.com (you can get a 30-day free trial).

And of course, you can come back to the friendly forum with specific questions.

Hi Derek. Thank you for replying. I'm not sure if I should feel offended though at your comments. I'm not beyond learning about a new program, but by Adobe giving me only 7 days as a free trial i doubt a 30 day free trial on LYNDA.com will allow me to explore the fundamentals of such a delicate program as Indesign. Not to mention I came to the Adobe forum for help and advice. Of which you gave none! You just gave me directions to another website. Not what I was looking for i'm afraid. If you don't know then don't reply. simples!

And as for the 'specific questions', hmmm I find a little sarcasm there. I did ask specific questions of which you gave no answers. Perhaps you should give specific answers next time instead of 'fob him off' answers.

    The warmest regards

Given your attitude, I’d suggest just sticking with Word or Publisher.

It was your sarcasm in the original post that leads me to believe that you think you should just be able to dive right in without any effort at all. That’s just not going to happen.
