I can't:
select multiple items with my cursor - I have to selet each individually
select text certain text
copy and paste things (they paste on random other pages).
Any ideas? It's pretty disastrous for my current project.
It's become unusable, I'm considering ways to export the whole thing. Shame as I'd just set up a document and the update to Hide Pages is actually a great help. If only the rest worked.

Hi @ChristianGSp,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing after the update to InDesign V.20. To better assist you, could you please share the version of your operating system?
I recommend trying to reset your preferences, as this can often resolve unexpected behavior in InDesign. You can find the steps to do this in the following link: [Resetting Preferences](https://adobe.ly/4f6QB3E).
Additionally, if you could provide a screen recording demonstrating the issues, it would help us understand the problem more clearly.
Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to helping you resolve this!
Best,
Abhishek

Hi @Abhishek Rao , that's for your reply. It started when Indesign updated itself to 20.0. I'm on OS 14.6.1 on an M1 Macbook Pro. I'll reset preferences again asap and if need be do a Loom. It may just be this file that I was working on half way through the upgrade. I mainly wanted to know if it was happening to others.
Thank,
Christian

Updating in mid-project is seldom a good idea. but what's done is done. Try an export to .idml if the problem is just this file.

InDesign has NEVER allowed you to multiple-select characters or words. It's just not possible.

If a document is not behaving well then try
File>Export
Choose IDML
Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name
See if the issue persists.
-----------
Try resetting your preferences:
Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the

I tried to Export the file to IDML and resave it. Works perfect. It seems the problem appears in the file when changing betweeen versions. Thanks!

Here is a series of steps to try troubleshooting:

However, I would save the file as IDML and reinstall InDesign 19.X. Don't use a new "dot-O" version of software until at least 3-6 months after it has been released. Also, turn off the auto update preferences in the Creative Cloud app, although you can keep multiple versions of the programs on your computer if you want.
