InDesign v21 Workspace Panels Not Expanding on Click in Windows 11

Hi,

I recently had to upgrade my Indesign to v21.

There seems to be a problem with workspaces. When I open or create a new document or maximise Indesign from a minimised state, randomly the palettes I have docked to the right of the screen do not open when I click the named tile/docked palette. They acknowledge my click but dont expand.

My colleague upgraded a while ago and I remember him getting stressed about this exact same issue so I dont know if this is version specific or Windows 11 specific but it is a problem. The work around seems to be having mulitple saved workspaces and when this occurs, switch to another one.

If you have experienced this, on Windows 11, please let know if you found a solution. Thanks.

I reset my Indesign preferences and renamed the folders. Also rebooted.

The work space then just kept defaulting to essentials every time I closed and opened another document. I saved a new workspace and this seemed to stick however I lost the option in the preferences to disable the Welcome screen. Unfortuately as thats more annoying than the palettes not opening I used the option to to migrate my old preferences from the previous version so I'm back to where I was.

I cant spend any more time on this so we will both just have to live with it for the moment. I still have Indesign 2025 installed so may just switch back to get my work done without delay.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @andrewb51522742,

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry this is interrupting your workflow. To understand this better, could you please confirm the exact version of InDesign 21 you're currently running, whether it is 21.0, 21.0.1, or the latest 21.0.2? Moreover, please provide a screenshot of the panel that has the issue for better reference.

In the meantime, please try manually resetting your InDesign preferences and let me know if that helps: https://adobe.ly/44ECBLD

If the issue continues after that, please rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from this location:
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

If there's no change, also rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from these locations:
Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

Let me know how this goes, and I'll be happy to continue helping you.

Abhishek

Thanks.
