InDesign vs Vectorworks 2024 vs OS Tahoe 26

Oct 01, 2025 Oct 01, 2025

Hi All,

We are an architect company in UK and 2 of our colleagues in the office have updated their 2020 iMac's to OS Tahoe and although their hardware is more than capable of running InDesign & Vectorworks at the same time, since updating, they can't run these 2 programmes at the same time. After doing some reading and Chat GPT, it seems Adobe are having problems with compatibility with Tahoe? Vectorworks (even 2024) seems to be ok with the update. Are there any plans for better compatibility with Tahoe soon? Or any tips in the meantime would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Roger

Rule one: Never upgrade an operating system without testing.

That out of the way, if the past is any indication, there's as good a chance that this is an Apple issue as an Adobe issue.

Tips? Roll back using the backup that your colleagues should have made before upgrading.

Hi @Roger277827611wzz,

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you please confirm which exact version of InDesign your colleagues are running alongside Vectorworks? It may also help to test once in Safe Mode to rule out any background processes or third-party plugins interfering, and try launching both apps while logged into a fresh macOS user profile to check if the behavior is account-specific.

I'd also like to know if you notice any difference in how InDesign itself behaves when used together with Vectorworks. If InDesign runs normally on its own, it might be worth checking in with the Vectorworks team as well to identify where the conflict may be coming from.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Can you please elaborate: what specifically happens when they attempt to run these 2 programs at the same time?

Other than that, as @BobLevine has already mentioned, they shouldn't have upgraded to Tahoe just yet. They can install Tahoe on a separate partition and test it there until it's ready for real-world production.

Maybe not totally ok if it can't run alongside InDesign?

I usually don’t bother updating the OS until it’s a full dot release (e.g. 26.1) and the Adobe Suite get a full upgrade since the OS dropped (e.g. not until InDesign 21). There's no feature I need that isn’t in Sequioa.
