Question

InDesign won't let me save anything!

I have just properly installed InDesign after finishing the free trial, and now for some reason when I try and save/export any documents I've made it stops responding and I have to shut it down. The documents are being recovered automatically when I open it back up, but I'm getting frustrated and confused with it because it's worked fine until now and as soon as I actually pay for InDesign it ceases to function. I need this to work for a uni assignment, please help!

Hi Barbinder I am having exactly the same problem!

I've gone through all the steps above and still wasn't able to save the recovered document. Every time I open back Indesign it recovers my document but when trying to export a PDF or save the InDesign file it gives me the saving spinner and stays there forever. When I go to Force Quit it shows "InDesign not responding".

Is there anything else I can try to solve this?

Thanks - really appreciate your help!!

But you can reopen the file? That's a good start. Did you try saving it under a new name? Or as IDML, and then close it and reopen it and save it back as an INDD?

Tell us a little more about your setup:

  1. What operating system?
  2. What version of InDesign?
  3. Are you saving to a local or to a network drive?
  4. Are using the same installation of InDesign that you used for the trial (just added the license so that you can continue to use it)?

Hi

I'm not familiar with some of the language, but I'm using the most recent version of the MacBook Air so whatever Apple products use.

It's the Indesign CC.

I'm just trying to save to my MacBook desktop so I have a .pdf version of both documents, so a local drive. I've just tried and it's allowing me to publish online but not save.

Yeah I've just installed it today after the trial ran out and I clicked add license.

File > Save is used to save the InDesign (.indd) file.

File > Export is used to create a copy of the .indd file as a .pdf file.

Which one isn't working? And did it work before you added the license?
