Indesign won't open any document, just showing the spinning wheel

Recently I'm having this problem, also with illustrator. Indesign wont open any document, there is no error message or anything but the spinning wheel. Sometimes forcing the app to close and open it again works but not always. I'd already deleted the preferences but didn't make any difference. This problem is been for least one week, suddenly works fine but there are days than can't work for

I'm running Mac Os High Sierra 10.13.5

Indesign and illustrator latest version

Try resetting your preferences again:

Close InDesign. Then hold down Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and relaunch InDesign. Respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.

Also try unticking in InDesign Preferences Use GPU Performance.

And maybe double check you do have the latest version of InDesign, which is 13.1 (not 13.01).

Many thanks for the help, but this week once again the problem occurs, with or without the GPU Performance the illustrator keeps freezing when trying to open a file. I do have the latest Illustrator versión, also the latest MacOs version

You'll have to post about Illustrator issues in the Illustrator forum, not here.

Your version of the operating system?

Also, try to update to InDesign 19.4. (Note: InDesign 19.4 has its own issues that may require you to revert back to 19.3, namely a "file is in use" message on attempt to open files).

Hi @Andrea29887927otko,

I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble with InDesign. Let's try to troubleshoot this further:

  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, please share the document with us. You can upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox, or a similar service and share the download link here.

  • Where are the files and links saved? Are they on a Network Drive, System HDD, Shared Folder on your system, or an External HDD?

  • When did this start happening? Have any recent changes been made to your system? For example, have any antivirus updates, system updates, new plugins, or web extensions been installed recently?

  • Please test if turning off the internet helps resolve the issue. Sometimes, network issues can cause problems with opening documents.

Additionally, make sure your InDesign and operating system are up to date. If the problem persists, please let us know so we can assist you further.

Best,

Anshul Saini
