Inline anchored objects moves when using Publish online - Indesign 2025

New Here ,

I recently upgraded to InDesign 2025 from 2024, Now I am having a glitch with anchored inline objects (icons for products in a catalog).

After using Publish Online, all the inline anchored objects have moved to the right by a few milimeters, and now overlap the text they are inline with.

The files where orginally created in 2024 InDesign.  The anchored objects are properly placed in the file, the glitch only appears on the uploaded published file.

I cannot use text box anchoring. It is not at all practle for my needs. The icons needs to be inline with the product title, and move accordinally if the text changes.

Looks like they moved left?

Do you have them Anchored - or InLined? Two different things.

Hi @Megan26584464tuj4,

I hope expert's question helped clarify things a bit. Are you still facing the issue?

Just to better understand what's going on, could you confirm which version of macOS you're using along with InDesign 2025(is it version 20.3.1?)? Also, is this happening with all files created in InDesign 2024 or just this one? If possible, a small screen recording showing the layout in InDesign and the published version would be really helpful for checking with the team.

Also, if you're able to share a sample file for us to test, it would be wonderful.

Abhishek

HI Megan. Something worth doing as a routine practice when you upgrade and begin to work with documents created in a previous version of InDesign is to export each legacy document to IDML and create a fresh INDD. This bypasses all kinds of possible glitches created by cruft accumulated in the original INDD that create unforeseen problems in the new version. It also means that you have the IDML as a backup in case you want to revert to the older version of InDesign. When you've done that, if the problem persists even after resetting InDesign preferences, you know the problem isn't with your document.

A best practice, always, is to retain the older version of InDesign and gradually migrate your documents to the new version. When you install the new version, be sure to uncheck "Remove older versions."

Hi Megan,

it's also possible that anchored objects, not inline anchored ones, will move with the text.

All depends on their anchoring settings. See this example from my German InDesign where the x-position is set relative to the anchor in the text, not to the text frame's left edge (default):

Sample document is attached to my reply.
