Question

Is it possible to set up so your PDFs auto lock when saving?

Hi,

As a graphic designer, I'm constantly having to lock files for proofing reasons.

Of course, locking files manually each time is not the end of the world, but it would make life a lot easier if I could have it set up to auto lock with a set password when exporting a PDF.

Is this possible at all with Adobe (mainly InDesign)?

Thanks

May not be exactly what you are looking for but have you considered using Publish Online tool in InDesign?

    What Bob wrote...

Also note that a password protected document can have the restrictions removed with any one of a whole bunch of restriction removers. If someone wants the content, they can get it. PW-protection is akin to locks on doors—they keep honest people honest. But that's it.

It may not be an issue with your clients. I dunno. But if not, then there is little incentive to bother with PW protection. Unless you just want to encourage them not to tamper with your PDFs. But that's all it is.

    Hi,

it's possible by scripting to export a PDF for printing that is password protected with e.g. print only protection.

However the exported PDF will not be a valid PDF/X document if it is password protected.

What do you exactly imply by proofing?

What exact things do you do when password protection with Acrobat?

    Regards,
    Uwe

    Hi,

I don't require a PDF for printing. What I'm implying is that I export PDF proofs to send to clients to view and approve and/or make changes (password protecting them so that no changes and printing is allowed).

So when I export a PDF in InDesign, going to security, I change the permissions each time I export. I know there are 'presets' you can save but none keep the security settings when saving.

So my main question is, is there a way to have a preset or setting to export a PDF with the same password automatically locking it without having to change the settings and enter a password each time?

    thanks,

    Hannah
