Is there a quick way to find how many rows are selected in a table?

In Excel you can select rows in the first column and see the number of rows selected at the base of the document window. Is there some way to get this info in an InDesign table?

Correct answer Robert at ID-Tasker

Paste copied / cut cells to a new TextFrame - then you can check total number of columns / rows in the pasted table.

Thanks Joe

I agree, this would be a simple feature similar to excel whereby the number of highlight "cells" (not rows) appears along the bottom. Im trying to paste a number of cell information into new cells, but i need to count how many i'm cutting, then count how many i'm pasting. I haven't found a successful way to do this in 15 years of using this software. Erics answer goes someway to achieve this but not ideal

Thanks for the work-around idea, Robert. I just tried it, and it does the job. I'll use it the next time I'm laying out tabled lists.

I still wish Adobe would find an interface solution that made work-arounds unnecessary.

You're welcome.

If you work on a PC - I would suggest using my ID-Tasker tool - there is free and paid version.

Hi,

I don't think that possible, tables are just a set of text frames.

What you can try is:

  1. Use the Text tool (T)
  2. Highlight the rows
  3. Open the Info panel from the Window menu
  4. Check how many lines it returns

Thanks Eric. That works if the rows are empty, which is helpful to a degree. However, if there are multiple lines of type in the selected rows, it counts the lines of type selected rather than the rows. I think you may be right about there being no such feature available currently in InDesign. Hmmmm??? Worth a look, Adobe?
