Is there a way to control which monitor ID starts on?

Hi. Using ID 18.3 on Win 11. nVidia 2070 Super graphics board

I have three monitors. A big one in the center and two smaller wing monitors. ID starts on one of the smaller wing monitors. Moving it to the center monitor is a hassle because the ID program window expands to 3-4 X normal size and spans across all monitors. It's the devil's own time to get it back to "normal" size and to full screen on only the middle monitor, but it's doable. It's just that it's a wresting match every time I start up. (One of several weirdnesses that have started since v18.)

Is there a way to control which monitor ID starts on? If it started on the middle monitor, that would be fine. It may be that there is a Registry adjustment I need to make.

Thanks.

In general it starts on what you have defined as being the 'main' display...

The main display is where the welcome screen always appears. I believe you can have the app and any spread of palettes open anywhere if you define a custom workspace.

My main monitor is where I want ID to open, and I haven't done otherwise for a while, but I recall that working on a prior setup where they were not the same.

That "main monitor" setting is very strong in Windows, though. A manual reset of the workspace may be necessary at the start of each session.

InDesign should open on the last monitor it was on - pallets can be on a different one.

Check this page:

Maybe this trick will be good enough for you:

Press “Windows + Shift + Left or Right.”

There is more without Shift or with Alt:

Win + ↑ Shift + ⤶ Enter should pin the app to current monitor:

Or with using Microsoft PowerToys for Windows:

LA PLUS RÉCENTE

These shortcuts move only the main app window. Palettes outside of it stay stuck.

But on a very similar setup, ID opened on the "last" — non-main — monitor after I moved it there. So other than the welcome panel insisting on using the designated main, it should be possible to park ID on any monitor, use a workspace to group the layout and palettes, and not have any but minor startup hassles.

Some apps are REALLY insistent on opening on the main display, as are most games. This is easy. 🙂
