Question

Is there a way to copy a button and paste it so that the new button retains the original actions?

I'm using InDesign for Windows v.19.01. I'm trying to copy and paste a button, but when I do, the new button doesn't retain the action settings from the original one. I found some info online that mentioned using ALT + drag, but that doesn't seem to work, either. I also searched the forums, but could only find results that suggested the same thing.

It should work. What actions do you have assigned to the button and are you pasting on the same spread or a different one? The first thing to do is update InDesign to 19.5.

What's your final output format?

Actually publishing it online via Adobe.

Hi @mwjr909,

I understand how important it is to have your buttons retain their actions when copying them. It can be quite frustrating when the usual methods don’t work.

I’d recommend trying the solution mentioned in this community post. It offers a method for ensuring that button actions are preserved when copying and pasting.

Please let me know if you continue to have trouble, and we can explore other solutions!

Best,

So, Anshul, based on that thread, I should simply save it as an IDML? Is that correct?
