Is this "preference" still possible in current InDesign?

Hello,

Previously, when importing/placing an image into a box in an open document, the imported image would default to landing with its upper left corner as the leading edge. I still prefer this but the current InDesign version imports the image to its center. Is this a "preference" that can be changed somewhere in a panel?

Please let me know.

The default is centered, but you can set your default Object Style to the frame that positions in upperleft. Something like this:
