Issues with Pre-Flight Checks for Illustrator Files in InDesign

Pre-flight shows that an illustrator vector image has too low effective resolution, however there's no way to change this, as there is no effective resolution ofr vector files.  It tells me the fix is to "correct the resolution in the source file."  Which is not possible from what I can see.

 

It also shows "strole weight too small", for 4 AI files, none of which have any strokes.  So I guess a weight of 0 is too small?  It tells me the effective stroke is 0.187 though...

 

It also gives me numerous bleed and trim hazards, however none of them are close to safe margins even.  And many of them are not even visible. Also, clicking on the page number doesn't go to that page, and doesn't highlight that item...

 

Overall, the pre-flight seems to be pretty broken at the moment!

I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing these issues with the pre-flight warnings—it sounds quite frustrating! To assist you better, could you please share the version of InDesign you’re using and the details of your operating system?

I am using InDesign 19.3 x64

Windows 10

Here we can see an example of something that is "too close", however it's quite a way inside the margin...

 

Below, on the left you can see the image has "too low a resolution", which can't be because it's an illustrator file. Also in the panel on the right you can see that it's given no resolution, and no effective resolution.

Thanks so much for providing the additional details and screenshots!

 

I completely understand how these preflight warnings could be frustrating, especially when they don't seem to match what you're seeing on the layout. To clear somethings: 

 

1. You’re absolutely right-vector images don’t typically have a resolution. However, if there are any raster effects applied in the Illustrator file (like drop shadows or glows), these could trigger the warning. A good place to start is checking the 'Document Raster Effects Settings' in Illustrator (Effects > Document Raster Effects Settings) and make sure they’re set to at least 300 ppi.

 

2. It sounds like the preflight is flagging strokes with a weight of 0, which could explain the warning. Even if you don't intend to have strokes, it’s worth double-checking that any strokes are set to "None" in Illustrator. Alternatively, you can adjust the preflight profile in InDesign to ignore strokes below a certain size if this keeps happening.

 

3. Preflight can sometimes be overly cautious with these warnings. If your items aren’t actually too close to the margins, you could consider tweaking your preflight settings to ignore these warnings or use View > Screen Mode > Bleed in InDesign to inspect your layout visually.

 

Is it possible for you to share the affected Illustrator file? Also, are you experiencing these issues only with this file or is it happening with other files as well?

If these issues persist or you’d like a second pair of eyes, feel free to share a packaged version of the file, and I’d be happy to take a deeper look.

Hi there, it's kind of you to offer to check the file, however I am unable to share the contents at this time.

The Illustrator raster effects are set to 600, although there's no effects on anything that's in there.  Even if there was, I have set 600, and the scaling of the items only goes in the other direction.  In this case the placed file was set to 27% scale, so the effective resolution should be about 2,400!

 

I did check and all strokes are set to none.

 

I use the full view mode all the time, so I can see what's within bleed/safe margins, it's just annoying it comes up in the check, which is meant to be the way of knowing everything is good.  If you have to start ignoring warnings, you'll end up ignoring ones that you actually need.

I will try a new file at some point to check if it's this file only.
