Question

Justified Hebrew text in EPUB

Using InDesign CC 2018

I have hebrew text, RTL, fully justified. Looks good on screen. But when I export as fixed layout EPUB, and open the file with Sigil, Readium or Kotobee Reader, etc. it looks left aligned.

I tried both the World-Ready Single-Line- and Paragraph- Composer

I also tried changing the font to Adobe Hebrew

Any ideas?

Thanx!

Is the font opentype? How does it look in the books app on iOS or MacOS?

Thanks for replying!

The font is Guttman Vilna, which is OpenType

But as I said, I have tried changing to Adobe Hebrew.

Here's how it looks in InDesign

Here's how a bit of the xhtml looks

And here's how it looks in Sigil

Similar (or worse) results in Calibre, Kotobee, Kindle Previewer...

Thanks

I don't know. I will only have access to a Mac this week, where I was going to try to use CicularFLO to add read-along audio to the epub. I also don't have access to iPad.

I was really trying to produce something for an audience with some reader on IBM compatibles, or something like Readium on Chrome...

Good luck with that. Beyond Books for iOS or Mac, it’s a real crapshoot for fixed layout.

This is unfortunate but if you’re using circularflo I wouldn’t worry too much.
