Keywords index

Hello! I have made a cookbook in Indesign (200 pages). It is almost finished but now the author wants to have a index list at the back of the book.

I am looking for an automatic way to make a "keyword" list > a specific word is found on multiple page(s).

So for example > the word "carrot" is on page 7, 12, 88, 102. I want to add a index list of these kind of words and their pagenumbers.

Is there a way to do this? I did not add index markers to these words unfortunately...

Hope someone can help me, otherwise it is lots of work

Thanks in advance!

Noël

Do you mean it would be "a lot of work" if you go through your text manually and note down page numbers? That is not necessary at all. So you did not add index markers -- well, that's not a problem. You can still do that.

See the online help: Create an index in InDesign . You don't even have to mark each word manually; the "Add index" entry dialog has a button "Add all", which you can use to immediately mark all entries for "carrot" in the entire document.

There are tons of scripts available (which surely can be found with a good web search), as Barbara mentions, but most of these are based on an existing word list. If you don't have one already, you'd first have to create one from scratch first.

Good indexes are indeed a lot of work. You need to add index markers. There is a script by Peter Kahrel that could speed up the process. InDesign: InDesign: Index from word list | Peter Kahrel
