Hi friends,
I am encountering a couple of unusual things when I export from InDesign to PDF.
#1: The letter following the drop cap disappears!
Note: I did receive a warning that the glyph was not available when I used the paragraph style with the drop cap.
#2: Some periods near the text-frame edge also disappear.
Here is a screenshot of a page in PDF (converted to JPG):
And here is a screenshot of the same page in JPG where they did not disappear.
Any clues how to fix this?
Thanks!!
Eli
This problem has existed for some time including 18.4 and 18.5. Try going back to 18.3 or 18.2.

Thank you @Robert at ID-Tasker for sharing that link to the discussion in the forum.
I tried turning off kashidas, but that didn't help.
I then tried adding an extra period, and that worked.
But now I have to add extra periods in a dozen or so select paragraphs across the document. 😞
If anyone has a solution, I'd appreciate it.
But my missing-glyph-after-the-drop-cap issue still stands.
Anyone have any advice?

There are a lot of known issues with RTL languages that Adobe is working on fixing.

Thanks @BobLevine for sharing that!

As far as I understand from other posts these issues were only introduced in InDesign 2024, so if you revert to 2023 until they're fixed you should be fine.

That is very interesting to hear, @leo.r .
I have never encountered these issues before.
Is the old ME version still available to download?

Yes, InDesign 2023 should be available in the Creative Cloud app.

I tried the 2023 version, and I had the same issue.
I hate to give up, but it's better than wasting time.

@EliyahuMiller I am having this same problem!! The first hebrew letter follwing my number drop cap disappears. My only solution has been to manually set up a drop cap in its own box. Can you explain how you fixed it? Tysm

I followed @BobLevine's advice and downloaded an old version of InDesign (and kept my up-to-date version for the rest of my work), which worked normally.
I think I used 16.3, but I am not sure now. Try it out - it can't hurt.
בהצלחה!

Rather than rolling back, you can export to .eps and then distill.

You could double last period - using GREP:
Find What:
\.$
Change To:
..
Of course, you can also narrow your search by selecting extra Text Properties - like ParaStyle, font, etc. - in Find Format section.

Thank you, Robert, for the suggestion.
I will try it, but the strange thing is that most paragraphs show their final periods in the PDF. Random periods are disappearing, like when they are near a text frame.
I will let you know how my experiments turn out.
