Line showing up in my text

I'm relatively new to InDesign. Every time I add text to my document a white line or highlight is displayed behind the text. See the image below. I want the blue background and the pink text, but not the white line. Any idea what's causing that?

    While the text is selected, go to the Control panel menu (at the far right), and see whether you have a Paragraph Rule turned on:

    Or you could have an underline applied to the type. Choose Underline Options from the Control panel menu:

      Maybe paragraph rules have been turned on? (Ctrl+Alt+J), either at global default or in a style you are using?
