When I try and link my photos, it's not working. I will link a few, save/close. When I open it back up it still says I need to link 24 pictures. HELP!

It would help if you provided more information about your system: Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using. Is this a new problem? If so, have you made any changes in your system? Does this happen with EVERY document you try, or just one document?
If it's happening to just one document, try saving it as an IDML file. Choose File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or later [IDML]. Open the IDML file and see if you have the same problem. This can help with corrupt documents.
If all files, I'd suggest restoring your InDesign preferences and caches. Here's how:

Hello,
My InDesign version is 18.0x64. This is my first time using it and I was missing all my links but when I go to link them, nothing is happening. I am making a cookbook so its just the one document.
Thanks!

I think this could also be the result of saving the files in some sort of remote location that syncs

I do remote in from home as this is my work computer I am making the cookbook on.

I'm just trying to understand your setup: The files are located on a "work computer" at another location, right? Is this a workstation or some kimd of server where the files are store? Are you working on Mac or Windows and what version of computers? How are you logging into the "work computer"?

I am using Windows, not sure on version but im sure its current since these are our work computers and my laptop is less than a year old. I remote in on my laptop...not sure how it works because our IT guys set up the remote connection. The files are located on my work computer but the cookbook is for my bosses wife, so I remote in from home to work on it.

So, you mean that the InDesign files and all the images that you have placed in the InDesign file are on your computer? Nothing is stored on a remote server, or a dropbox (or similar) folder?
Can you post a screenshot of the links panel, showing the images path?

According to your screenshot, I don't see any problems. No missing links.
I am not sure to understand when you write “that I remote into from my laptop at home”: do you mean that you have copied the files from your work computer into your laptop?

"remoting in" means that you are accessing your work screens/folders from a home computer.
OK, I understand better (English is not my native language). The weird thing is that you get an error message but the links panel does not show any missing links and the status is OK.

To show the Path @jmlevy is talking about, you need to select a link and open the Link Info section at the bottom (shown in the top rectangle). The link is shown in the lower rectangle.

The error message confuses me. What I have missing images, I would see the "red icons" you see in this picture:
Are you seeing those icons?

That is strange. To add pictures, I normally make a box and drag the photo from the folder to the box and re-size from there. Maybe I need to add the photos a different way? It is very strange that I don't see any Question marks or warning sign.

The preferred way is to choose File > Place in InDesign, and select the image. Then either click over an existing frame (to place it in the frame), or drag out a frame with the image cursor. This method creates the link to the external image. When the file is opened, InDesign looks for the external image. If it's missing, it shows the red icon.

For me, while I don't prefer it, you can drag and drop images from the Mac Finder (and Windows Explorer) into frames and that should also create a link.
However, it seems that this method interferes with the link in your work environment. You're using doing this with a remote setup that I don't understand.
I would try using the File > Place method and see if that solves you problem.

I did try using the file, place method and it still says 25 links are missing. This program should not be this complicated. I am using my work computer currently.

It must have something to do with your remote setup. Can you get any support from your system administrator? I don't work on Windows and I don't use computers remotely so I'm reaching the end of my ability to help solve the problem.

Currently I'm trying to link them while I'm using my work computer so I'm not certain it would be the remote set up.

Again, apologies for not being able to help further. Like @jmlevy I've never seen a missing links message without seeing the missing links icons. It's beyond something I've ever encountered.

Totally not your fault. I'm frustrated with this program in general. I really appreciate you trying to help me! Thank you.

Two things...
First, I think maybe the the screen capture of the links panel is taken AFTER relinking each time, which is causing the confusion there.
Second, I would try mapping the remote folder to a drive letter and see if that makes a difference. To map a network drive on PC open File Explorer and right-click on This PC, then choose Map Netork Drive, browse to your remote folder and assign a drive letter.

Did anyone solve this? I've been using InDesign on a MAC for years - before that I used it on a PC - to format books. I have a home office and the files are all stored on a [each book has its own, specific folder] shared Google Drive. I always do the file, place, thing with a new graphic. There are certain reoccuring graphics that I always copy into that art subfolder of that book and then relink to folder. The same thing is happening to me as described above. EVERY time I open a file that has been saved/closed, I do NOT see any links that are missing or have the yellow caution triangle but I'm told there are missing links ... LOTS of them. It doesn't tell me which ones so I don't know if it's the copied in ones or the new ones or both. Then, when I try to relink the file, it's grayed out. What is happening?
