Hi Adobe Community,
I have a book I am currently working on in InDesign. I recently converted the book to PDF and noticed that there is one instance where a heading is converting over as an image (i.e., not selectable/searchable in PDF). The text is not on a parent page in InDesign and it has not been converted to an object. I tried changing the font to see if the font was the problem, but I still ended up with the same result. This is the only place within the 150+ pages where this is an issue, and I'm not quite sure how to fix it.
Has anyone else experienced this before and figured out how to fix?

My guess is that you exported using PDFX1-a. Use PDFX4 instead. This will stop the PDF from being flattened.

Hi BobLevine,
I actually exported as Press Quality. I just tried your suggestion, and that still did not work. It's quite confusing, as it's just this one heading across all 188 pages. Do you have any other suggestions?

Can you post a page of the PDF so we can take a look?

Unfortunately, no. It's for a federal customer, and the final report has not been publicy posted yet. But to give more detail, there is an iamge on the parent page for that page. In the main working space, there are text boxes - one for the heading and one for the body text. The body text has converted over as live, editable text, but the heading is converting over as an image. I just ended up deleting the text box for the heading, creating a new one, and reconverting, and that seemed to do the trick. It's now converting over as editable text. So I guess it worked itself out but still confused why it wasn't working properly to begin with!

I'm glad you got it sorted but sometimes there's no explanation except gremlins.
