Is there a maximum file, not document, size for an InDesign file?
Am I approaching a limit?
No, but make sure your placed assets are linked and not embedded.

not document
Do you mean a max placed file size?

No, I mean a maximum file size for the document itself. As an example I'm working on a document with multiple placed vector and raster images; that file is currently at about 120 MB and 75% done. Am I approaching a limit?

I have indesign files close to 500mb with embedded images - vector and raster - not a problem for me.
And by embedded I mean they are linked first to the file, then embedded via the links panel.
Not copy and pasted from Illustrator/Photoshop.

To supplement already provided info: you won't approach that limit (if there is one at all, and I don't think there is) even if your file reaches dozens of gigabytes in size (although this would signify some other potential issues with your file).
