Minimum page size ... again

New Here ,

I would like to know, if there is a minimum size for an InDesign page.

When trying to create a document smaller than 30x30mm InDesign keeps complaining, that the "Specified margin and column setup does not fit within specified page size". Margin and gutter is set to zero. The page has one column.

I've searched the whole forum but did not find any suitable information on this. Referenced threads are not found any more.

I'd be happy if someone could give me a small hint.

Tanks,

Marko

I'm having the same problem in CS4 when I try to create a document. I zeroed out the margins and gutters too but I didn't have any luck. It's also inconsistent in my case. I can create a document the size of a US business card with a margin of 3p0 but when it get's to something bigger than that but smaller than a letter, no gutter or margin will work.

But that only applies to document creation for some reason. So far, my workaround has been to create a default document and then resize it using the document setup after the fact. It's a pain and it's weird, but that's what I've had to do.

If you've come up with a better solution since your post, I'm all ears.

We were trying to make a page 40mm x 20mm in InDesign CS5, and experienced the same problem – ie. InDesign throwing up the error message "This page size does not fit with the current margin and column settings". However, that was after making a new blank A4 document, changing all margins to 0mm and then trying to resize the page.

Then I tried creating a new document and immediately making the document 40mm x 20mm and 0mm margins all round (all inputted on the New Document screen). This worked fine and created a document at exactly the dimensions we required.

This also worked with the 30mm x 30mm document. Infact, I even managed (just to see if InDesign would let me) to make a document that was only 1mm x 1mm.

So it looks like there isn't a minimum page size, but you have to input the detail right from the word go, rather than trying to resize a larger document.

Good point pardalek. I've just done another test, and that's what was throwing up the initial error. That is, when trying to reduce the A4 page to 40mm x 20mm I hadn't change the margins on the master pages, but only on page 1 of the document.

Reducing the master page margins to 0mm all round allows me to then reduce the A4 page to 40mm x 20mm. Seems obvious now I think about!!
