Missing Fonts in InDesign CS6, but they're not missing!!

Hello All,

I have an InDesign file that keeps telling me I'm missing the Cooper Hewitt (TT) Semibold Italic font. But it's installed. Matter of fact I uninstalled the entire Cooper Hewitt font family, manually removed them from the registry, and reinstalled from scratch. The file still insists that it's missing. I copied the entire contents of the Windows Fonts folder directly into the InDesign Fonts folder (a fix that worked for someone else in the office) and the error is the same.

This is driving me crazy. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Well, at this stage, being out of other ideas, I would trash the preferences.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks for your help.

This is an older solutions page, but solutions 4 – 6 may prove useful.

Fonts don't appear in the Font menu | Adobe InDesign 2.x, CS, CS2

Unfortunately downgrading the CS2 is not a good option on any level....

Huh, that's tough… You better don't do this.

Have you any other indd file with that font used? Is it 'missing' there, too?

In Indesign with no files opened, do you see it in the list (Type>Font)?

How about other applications - are you able to use it there?

I mean, are you absolutely sure your copy of font file itself is not corrupted?

InDesign is (and always was) very picky regarding fonts.

"Huh, that's tough… You better don't do this."

Not sure what that means, but it fixed this exact same error on another PC.

"Have you any other indd file with that font used? Is it 'missing' there, too?"

    Yes, and yes

"In Indesign with no files opened, do you see it in the list (Type>Font)?"

    Yes

"How about other applications - are you able to use it there?"

It works fine in Word, so yes.

"I mean, are you absolutely sure your copy of font file itself is not corrupted?"

I thought that too, so I copied it from a PC where I know it works. Since it works in other apps, I'm quite positive it's not corrupted.

"InDesign is (and always was) very picky regarding fonts."

    I can see that....

OK. So it's installed in Windows/Fonts folder now?

If you create brand new indd document from scratch, in different folder, with no Documents folder in it, enter some text, apply Cooper Hewitt (TT) Semibold Italic to it (is it in the list, can you do it?), save/close/open that file? Is the font missing?
