Missing ribbon on CC InDesign

I am missing the ribbon just above the ruler that contains red, yellow and green circles, the percentage of zoom, and a few other things. It shows this ribbon on the CC InDesign tutorial, but I can't seem to locate it. Thanks!

I think you are referring to the application bar. The application bar was removed in InDesign 2020. If you're watching a tutorial from 2019 or earlier, it will show it.

Most of the commands that were on the Application bar are found in the View menu. The arrange commands are in the Window menu.

If you are looking for a specific command, just let us know and we will give you the information you need to track it down.

Amazing, I had the exact same question -- and here we are in 2023! I see this got answered in 2020, but I just wanted to alert someone that Adobe is still using the older version in the training videos! And it's been gone for 4 years, Yikes. (very confusing for an absolute beginner in InDesign) Anyway, I am familiar with the current version of Photoshop, which still uses the format with the application bar.

Hey, Jane. I didn't say the old Application Bar (AB) was part of the workspace.

Oh, I see. I said that in the Essentials workspace, the AB was above ruler. In the other workspaces, the Control Panel was above the ruler, and the old AB was above the Control Panel. I was working off of SeattleSleeper's description: I am missing the ribbon just above the ruler... I see the confusion, but yes, I am aware that they are separate. 🙂

Hi

I agree with Barb's correct answer. Here is a screen shot from InDesign CC 2019 with the Red, Yellow, and Green circles (close, minimize, restore), the Zoom control, and a "few other things". In Windows, the View Options, Screen Mode, Arrange Documents and Zoom were on the Menu bar. The Mac can't have other things on the Menu bar and they were on a second line called the Application bar.

Dax and Bob, you are both Windows users as I recall? You wouldn't have seen this. 🙂

Here is the Window menu in 2019. In 2020, the Application Bar is missing because it is gone.

As Barb correctly said, everything is here, it's just been moved.

I don't know, guys. This sure is a pretty accurate description of the old Application bar in the 2019 Essentials workspace. 😜

What won't you know, Bob? Do you want more screen shots? Do you want me to bring my Mac to the ACP day I hope we have again in NYC and show you in person, hahaha?

For the record, I think the OP is referring to the Control Panel which can be accessed at Windows > Control

If you want the legacy workspace you can enable it. Window > Workspace > Essentials Classic
