modular user manual

I need to make a user manual for a modular product. I want the manual to be just as the product, modular. Depending on the options the customer chose I want the manual to contain only the apliccable information. This does not have to be an automatic system but I do not want to have to delete all the non apliccable information out of the user manual for every model.

Is there a way in which you can group certain parts of the document and select the ones you want to show in the manual?

Where exactly is the manual going to reside? What format are you thinking about.

PDF would be a disaster. Publish Online or output from in5 could possibly handle it using multi state objects but it's going to be a world of pain no matter what you do.

The manual is going to be printed and delivered with the product. I was hoping there was a way to make adjusting the manual to the product easier than just deleting the unnecicary text.

Ah. So you want different versions of printed material?

Look into conditional text.
