Wondering how/where to specify that the character color of a new para. type shall duplicate that of the ancestor para. type. This seems somehow related to the fact that the character color of the ancestor is not in the list of character colors for the new para. type.
So, what is going on here? What am I missing?
With thanks in advance, as always,

Hi Jack:
The best way to approach this is to use styles. Let's use heads as an example. Set up a paragraph tag for your Titles, including the color. Then move on to your subtitles: first assign Title, then Alt/Opt click on the Create new Paragraph Style at the bottom of the Paragraph Style panel.
This will automatically base the new style, Subtitle, on the parent style, Title. Adjust the formatting, but leave the color alone. You can see under Style Settings that I only reduced the type size. All

Now, if you want to change the color of all the heads, right click the parent style: Title in the Paragraph Styles panel > Edit "Title".
When you change the parent, it changes the child styles, except where you specified the child style should be different—in my example, it's just the size.
