Object style forcing me to clear overrides before applying

Community Beginner ,

Hi all!

I have a simple object style that consists of just a 0.5pt stroke with a text wrap around it. This works fine.

However, if i draw a new rule and try to apply the style, it won't apply the text wrap until I click "clear overrides." Is this normal InDesign behavior? It's extremely frustrating.

Any ideas?

can you click anywhere on the page ( nothing selected)? open the object styles panel, something will be selected and have a plus next to it. that is your hint that there is a default setting. option click on the default to clear it and make the default at the same time.

If you have nothing selected, and you choose a style, it becomes the default. this happens for everything, object, character, paragraph styles.

If I click on the page with nothing selected, the [None] style is selected. I have also made that the default. However, this does not solve the issue. Drawing a rule and applying the style still requires me to clear overrides before it will apply the text wrap.

(Note that the other parts of the style (eg., stroke color) do apply before clearing overrides. It's only text wrap that won't immediately apply.

thats interesting. ok. try to apply the object style again. instead of clearing the style, double click on it and set up the wrap again from the panel. and than redefine.

I am able to do that, however the Redefine style option is grayed out.

I have narrowed down the cause of the issue. When I set my style to have different values in the text wrap (eg., 0 for top and bottom, 0p11 for left and right), the issue arises. If i change all values to the same thing, it works fine again.

Another note, the style works fine on boxes even with different text wrap values. It's only rules that don't work before clearing overrides.

Surely this is a bug?

it been gray out is weird. click on an empty space and click back on it and see if its back available to redefine?

Also make a legacy file first... than lets try this suggestion. Turning files to legacy files is a great way to get rid of the bad voodoo..lol

Same issue occurs on legacy files.

The style works properly on everything besides a stroke. If I change the text wrap options in the style to be the same value, it works. I am convinced this is a bug. Multiple people have confirmed that they are experiencing the same issue when trying this.
