Offset of Printer's Marks "Default" should be tied to Bleed size

When using the built in PDF export settings, as many people seem to do, the default offset for the Printer's Marks is .0833 in. Is there any way that you could have the offset tied to the Bleed size? I work at a commercial printer and a majority of PDF files that come in with the .125" bleed that we request have the marks offset .0833" which effectively only gives us .0833" bleed. We have settings files that we send out, but most of the time we get files from all over and they seem to have the default .0833" offset. Unfortunately we are not able to communicate with the designers. If the offset was created based on the bleed size it would be a benefit to all.

Hi @ILSSTR8 , It might be worth checking over in the Acrobat forum to see if there is a way to move or set the marks inside the PDF. There might be a way to automate it with a script.

Like Peter, I too think the offset default is poorly chosen, but the printers I've work with don't even want them included anymore.

Since the bleed and trim are coded into the PDF they prefer to add their own. If they're following the .125" directions why not just add a note for no crop marks or to change the offset?

Trust me when I tell you that after more than 20 years of where it is now, the chances of it being changed are pretty low.

Yeah, a poor default.

But it sounds like you work for a lot of amateur designers. If you want to fix this problem you should send these files back and explain to the folks doing the submissions what needs to be changed.
