Opening double quotation mark is displayed as single quotation mark

I have a text like the following which includes a quote with double quotation marks:

Diese elende „Ursuppe“.

If I set this text in Poppins Regular or any other font, everything works just fine and the text is displayed with the correct quotation marks. If I set it in Poppins Regular Italic, the opening (and just the opening) quotation mark is shown as a single and not a double quotation mark. In other programs, the font just works fine and shows the correct quotation mark.

Does anyone have an idea what I could do to fix this? I'm very glad for any help.

Does it change if you upgrade to 17.2.1?

220501-1-BUG-Showing-INDD-17.2.1.png

InDesign 17.2.1.105 auf Windows 10.

Was sagt nun das Glyphen Bedienfeld?

Keine große Überraschung:

DOUBLE LOW -9 QUOTATION MARK

So soll's ja auch sein.

Da haben wohl die Schriftenhersteller nicht aufgepasst:

220501-2-BUG-Showing-INDD-17.2.1-105-GlyphPanel.png

Thin Italic

ExtraLight Italic

Light Italic

Italic

Medium Italic

SemiBold Italic

Bold Italic

ExtraBold Italic

Black Italic

Hi Harshika,

thank you for letting us know!

For me the issue is fixed now. But to fix it with the InDesign documents that are using the Poppins Italic styles required some extra steps. The procedure was far from seamless.

[1] If I re-activated the Poppins font family through the Creative Cloud Desktop App the new version was not available with the fixed glyph. CC Desktop App seems to use an old cached version of the font family.

[2] To get the new version of the font family I had to activate it through:

https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/poppins

[3] Even then InDesign could not substitute the old version with the new version automatically.

When I opened my test document from May 1st with Poppins Italic InDesign 17.2.1 issued a missing font warning:

220511-0-MISSING-FONT-Preflight-after-activating-Poppins-again-Zoom-800%.PNG

Note, that at this time the whole Poppins font family was indeed available in the Fonts menu of InDesign.

Also note that the glyph rendering of that "missing font style" was perfect. Despite the fact that InDesign preflight issued that missing font warning and the text was marked with pink to show that.

So I substituted Poppins Italic with itself and also changed all styles at the same time:

220511-1-MISSING-FONT-WARNING-after-activating-Poppins-again.PNG

220511-2-MISSING-FontStyle-Substituted-with-NewActivatedStyle.PNG

Saved that document to a new name. Here a screenshot for comparisom of the glyph rendering from the screenshot before:

220511-0-MISSING-FONT-SUBSTITUTED-after-activating-Poppins-again-Zoom-800%.PNG

Both InDesign documents attached.

Regards,
Uwe Laubender

I just got the problem 2 months into working with the same document. I'm not using an adobe font, I've downloaded it. So it must be inside indesign since the issue popped up out of nowhere.

it's been a year and there still doesn't seem to be a solution. writing a bachelor thesis like this is a nightmare!

I don't think so. The issue is with your downloaded font file.

See into my first screenshot there:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/opening-double-quotation-mark-is-displayed-as-si...

Try to do a screenshot like this with the Story Editor window open. And post it here.

My suggestion: use a different font for your thesis.
