Hi everyone.
I have a freqently coming magazine with Stylesheets and Layout that stays (of course) the same from issue to issue. With the recent one i recognised, that the Optical Margin Alignment is not making an effect anymore. Technically is acivated with 9 pt. But as you can see in the attached files form the recent and the previous magazine, the hyphen is within the textframe, not optically optimized like in the previous magazine. The only thing I changed within the two magazine is: I updated to InDesign 2024. Are there any solutions or does somebody have the same problem?
Thanks
Check your paragraph settings—I had the same problem, and noticed that the paragraph was set to use Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer. When I switched to regular Adobe Paragraph Composer, the hyphens behaved normally with Optical Margin Alignment turned on (that is, they extended past the text frame).

The Story panel feature works on my InDesign 2024 running on Sonoma 14.2.
Have you experimented with resetting InDesign preferences?

Hello Mike Witherell.
I am in the middle of two important jobs and do not want to take the risk, that i screw up my files in deleting the preferences. Do you think the problem is accuring because i am on Ventura 13.6.1?
Thanks for your response in the first place.
Stefanie

If it's only happening in one particular file (but works in others), there could be some corruption in the file. Try saving as an IDML file: File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or Later [IDML]. Then open the IDML again in InDesign and see if the corruption has been removed.

Thanks for your response, but it is in every file the case.

Just found this post trying to research the same exact problem. Have any fixes been identified? I'm running InDesign 19.0.1 on Ventura 13.6.6.

That wasn't it, but I found a fix! It's the World-Ready composer setting that's doing it.

If the problem occurs with all files, you may need to restore your InDesign preferences and caches. Here's how:

Thank you for your response. I followed your suggestions, but my problem was still not resolved. 😞 Version 19.4

Thank you for your answer. Thanks to you my problem was solved. but another problem occurred. In the setting you mentioned, the Arabic sentences I used in the text are distorted. There was no such problem in previous versions. I don't understand why such a problem appeared in the latest version. Do you have any suggestions on this matter?

Merhaba. For Arabic text, you'd certainly need to set your Paragraph settings to one of the Adobe World-Ready composers.
Can you elaborate on the project and the issue you're facing so perhaps we can suggest a better answer?
