Override a paragraph's inclusion in TOC

I have a  newsletter with a TOC on page 1. There is also an article on page 1 that uses the same headline style referred to by the TOC. It is a template and I want to keep formatting as simple as possible, so I don’t want to have to use a separate style for page 1’s headline. What I would like to know is if there is an attribute to not include a paragraph in the TOC. It looks like there is not, so I have to decide whether to manually fix the TOC (and include instructions to do so for future users) or make a separate style.

Bob's steering you right.

1) Go to the Paragraph Styles palette and select your ToC-included paragraph style. Click on the context menu in the palette and select Duplicate Style...

2) In the Style Name: edit box change it from {Named Style} copy to {Named Style} — No ToC. Click the OK button to close the Duplicate Paragraph Style dialog box

3) Apply exceptions by clicking anywhere in the paragraph and applying the {Named Style} — No ToC from the Paragraph Styles palette and you're home free
