I have installed INDD CC2023 version 18.1.0.051

The "Package" option is not availble.  It is grayed out.

Running Catalina for the Mac OS.

Any thoughts?

The Package function isn't currently available for cloud docs.

LeoR,

Thanks for sharing the tip that InDesign document cloud files won't Package unless saved onto your local machine hard drive.

Is there a resource where I can read about other limitations of the cloud-based InDesign file?

I found only this, so far:

https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/cloud-documents.html

  • Package isn't available for cloud documents
  • Commenting isn't available for cloud documents
  • Save a Copy isn't available for cloud documents
  • InDesign - InCopy workflows are unsupported

On my own, I noticed that you can place cloud-based PSDC Photoshop files, but not cloud-based Illustrator files.

Also, I noticed that you can share the InDesign cloud-based document with others, but not necessarily the placed graphics.

Was a solution ever identified to this post? I just experienced the same problem, but saving the project to my Desktop (previously a cloud doc) resolved it.

Make sure all your links are embedded and that your document is saved(no asterisk in the filename in the program).

I'm a bit confused on what embedding the links is going to do? It doesn't affect the packaging options - or affect the menu item.

Filenaming is important - so making sure no weird characters in the filename might help.

It forces the linked assets to be associated with the file you're trying to package- a way to ensure your linked assets aren't preventing you from packaging. Those links will be part of the file, yes, but it works most times and is easier than hunting for all your links to verify they are still okay.

Here are two more chicken soup guesses:

You could try to run permissions utility checks on your macOS.

You could try to export your INDD to IDML; then re-open the IDML to a fresh INDD.

Yes, the option is still greyed out with the INDD saved to desktop.

Checking on conflict with 3rd party extension.

Could you try the Cleaner Tool - it was the second option I suggest - thanks.

Hi @chrisr12121022 ,

is the option still grayed out if you save that document to your Desktop?

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
