Packaging summary shows missing fonts, but Find Font doesn't

Hi, this is a new one, for me anyway. I'm packaging up a file and the summary shows missing fonts. But when I go to Find Font the missing fonts are not listed in the Find Font dialogue box. I went through the document with a fine tooth comb and can't find them anywhere. This document had been a Save As from some other designer, so the fonts must be in there somewhere. (I checked through all the master pages, not there). But why aren't they showing up in the Find Font dialogue box? Any ideas?

Are there any imported InDesign files embedded or linked to in the file? If so are they in the Links folder? If they are there then open them and see if the missing fonts are part of those files.

Hi, thanks for replying. I don't see anything in the Links panel except the .psd illustrations files. Where would I find out if there is an embedded InDesign file?

It would be listed in your Links Panel with an .indd suffix next to the name.

Are there any images within your file which when you click on them with the direct selection tool (white arrow) DO NOT show in the Links Panel? I have seen instances where someone pasted an image into a graphic frame (rather than placing it) putting a color into the swatch panel which could not be deleted. It seems possible that you could have a similar situation here with your fonts. When an image is pasted like I described you can't really get to it to make any adjustments.

I think that's the case with some of the type boxes. For most of them when I drag and select all the type boxes on a spread, the font is displayed in the control panel. But for others spreads it's just grayed out. When I select all the type in that box, though, there's no way I can find any rogue type elements, like you say. It's a mystery!

It could be a hangover from a font used in a style somewhere or something.

It's hard to know without seeing the exact file and examing things.

Try deleteing unused styles.

If the find font is not showing up anything then you are probably ok.

PSD files might have fonts in them, but placing them in InDesign would mean that they are being exported as Raster at the resolution of the placed file.

What you could do is export the file to IDML after removing unwanted paragraph/character styles.

And load up the IDML file - save it as an Indesign file - export again to see if it raises any issues.

Hi, thanks for responding. I looked in styles and deleted unused styles. The styles that were left did have some of those fonts in there, so I changed them all. Still, the packaging report is seeing them but the the Find Font isn't. As long as the file prints alright then I'm not concerned, but we have to test it. Thanks.

Hi Kelley,

can you post the packaging report plus a screenshot of the Find Font dialog box?

Hi, Uwe, sorry for the dumb question, but how do you post a screenshot here? Drag and drop doesn't work and I don't see anything to add attachments.
