Question

page panel - create page names

I'm working on a multi-page-size document containing a variety of poster and flyer sizes for a campaign.
I'm looking for an easy way of naming or labelling the different pages in the pages panel in order to quickly access the relevant versions. An A4 thumbnail looks exactly the same an an A3 or A1 thumbnail since the dimensions are the same, so there's nothing telling me what I'm editing until I select the page and click on the page tool.

Since this is a document where page numbers are of no relevance, is there a way of manually typing custom labels in place of the page numbers in the pages panel or elsewhere visible for a more intuitive workflow?

Yes, I could simply add a text frame into the pasteboard / artboard area of each page, but was hoping for something more integrated.

All great suggestions, people. Thanks!

Bit work-aroundy, but might do for now. It would still be great to have more individual flexibility and also something that also doubles up as export file name. Currently, when I select "page size" to be included in the file name, it only gives me the actual measurements, not the preset name (i.e. A2 or 4-sheet etc.)

Hi  nadworks-cb:

Good to know that we came up with some viable options.

It would still be great to have more individual flexibility and also something that also doubles up as export file name.

Just a note that you are on a user-to-user forum, meaning we are users like you. If you want to register a feature request, it's best to do it here so that the Adobe engineering team will see it: Adobe InDesign Feedback.

Yes, totally aware. Thanks.
I just supported a feature request that's exactly along those lines: Enhance the new Suffix feature for exporting single Pages or single Spreads as PDF – Adobe InDesign Feedback

Should be a no-brainer to implement.

If you are not using the current page number marker for auto pagination, you could make sections and include a prefix. The Page Numbering View in Preferences has to be set to Section Numbering:

… "A4" …  "A3" …  "A1" …

Hmm!  just give a right name to the master-page [you can give 4 chars to it] precising its page right dimensions, and apply to it a specific color label!

Hi nadworks-cb:

Here are two more ideas for you:

Define Section prefixes

Define Alternate layouts

For examole, you can use color labels. Page Panel menu > Page attributes > Color labels.

There will be a colored strip under each page.

As Anna pointed out, color labels are available but page naming is NOT.
