Paragraph border do not wrap around an object frame

New Here ,
Oct 11, 2022 Oct 11, 2022

Hi,
I can't figure out why a text border (left border) style I created doesn't wrap around an object. The border is just ignored and appears under the object frame. See samples.

The border is ignored when adding a wrapped frame.

Thanks,

In “ParagraphBorder” tab, use “Text”.

Right so!

But migo@kanopi , be aware that the whole paragraph must be affected by the text wrap object.

Two different situation where I used "Text" in Paragraph Border:

Hi migo@kanopi ,

are you sure this is a border applied to text with a paragraph style or the paragraph panel?

Looks more like a column rule applied through the text frame options. But of course, I could be wrong…

Please share a sample page so that we can look into the issue.

Hi @Laubender I confirm this behaviour, I have the exact same issue on a magazine I work for.

I added a border to the paragraph style, not to a frame. Sample file attached.

Did you anchor the image?

no. it's really just a simple paragraph style with a left border. Once I add a text wrap frame the border goes under the frame rather than part of the text. see sample file above,

I do confirm this bug. Do on uservoice.com report about that bug. Give us here the link, I and some other folks will add voice in it.

Here the workaround below in an image. But you will need to have 2 paragraph styles with this workaround, because frames without near images with wrap will have normal result for this border line.

Thanks for the workaround. I am aware of this option, however, I have many paragraphs like this with various image and symbol frames. This means that every tiny change within the text flow will require reviewing the entire book. Seems odd but maybe @Laubender is right.

Hi together,

that's not a bug!

It's just that the text frame has a distinct width and the paragraph rule has to honor the left edge of the text frame.

The graphic frame with text wrap applied is partly stacked on the area of that text frame.

The workaround is clear as George already showed.

interesting. This happens to other, much shorter paragraphs where the image frame is much larger than the text.

Even when the frame is much larger than the text block the border flows behind the frame. I don't know what rule you are talking about. It seems like a bug.

It's not a bug … Just a wrong use of this InDesign feature: use "Text" and not "Column" [simplistic case]!

@FRIdNGE you are a legend! I don't think this option and what it does even exist in Adobe's help files. Thanks hips.

This left line of paragraph usually needs for quoting and break apart this quote looks wrong.

But nobody says that you can't do anything even if it wrong)))
