Question

Pasting Urdu and Arabic text into InDesign causes disorder or corruption

Hello all,

I'm currently working on a project where I am pasting provided translated text into indesign on an originally english document.

Everytime I paste either the Urdu or Arabic translations into InDesign they look very different to the original layouts. I have looked into a few things such as placing arabic placeholder text, which was helping I think, though will be a bit fiddley. Urdu not sure I have this option.

Obviously using the world paragraph/sentence composer setting, which does change the original pasting, but still isn't correct from my eyes.

Is there a reason that this translated text which appears fine on anything MS or Google, but gets completely muddled when pasting into InDesign?

It doesn't help that I'm English and do not speak/read either language, but I can see from reference that something isn't right here and going on various posts, this seems to be a constant issue. There might be an obvious process I'm missing as well.

Working on macOS Big Sur

CC InDesign 2023 v18.4

Thank you!

The first couple of lines are fine, the last line though I can see the text is overlapping. I do strongly suggest that you install another version of InDesign that supports Arabic and other languages including Urdu. Post back here  if you need further guidance or suggestions.
