PDF from InDesign is showing that Fonts I did not use

Hi all,

When I export InDesign files to PDF, and look at what fonts are in the PDF file, it shows a ton of extra fonts that are not visually present and are not used in the InDesign document. I susspect they are somehow hidden and embdded. But when I am in InDesign, and go to Find/Replace Fonts,  I do not see these hidden fonts that are being referenced in PDF. Anyone have a a solution for finding these fonts in InDesign and removing them?

Thank you!

Does the font allow embedding? If not, use a different font with a licence to embedf at least subsets.

Do you have any placed PDFs or EPS that could contain those fonts?

I think Find/Change fonts misses on bullet fonts (very old document format, nowadays bullets should use a character style), could that be the case here?

Does your document have a CJK history (e.g. edited in Japan) while you're using a western InDesign?

There are also other missed constellations (e.g. unused styles, overset) but those should not end up in a PDF.

Can you eventually share an example document?

They'd still show up as fonts - I believe.

Did you package the file first it may show the fonts that are giving trouble.

Yes, file has been packaged first. Still has issues in PDF.

Try IDML posted earlier in thread and see if it works.

Can you please show a screenshot of indesign Find/Replace fonts and also Acrobat Font list

When you make the PDF - in the Font Subset could be including all the weights and variations of the font - just a guess.

Try setting this to 100%

If it's not that - it could be code build up

If a document is not behaving well then try

File>Export

Choose IDML

Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name
See if the issue persists.

I also did this as well and still having issues. Fonts are accurate in InDesign and the PDF is saying there are additional fonts.
