Community Beginner ,
Jun 18, 2020 Jun 18, 2020

Hi, can anyone tell me where to find PDF/X-4:2010?
I have updated InDesign to latest version, but its not there, I just have PDF/X-4:2008.
And I can not find it anywhere to install.
Thanks

Hi loner93306019,

don't be confused: When you select the preset named [PDF/X-4:2008] the default setting of "Standard" is PDF/X-4:2010.

From my German InDesign 2020 version 15.1.0.25:

If standard PDF/X-4:2010 is not showing up, your color management settings of InDesign are turned off. Just I did before doing the screenshot below. Then standard turned to value "None":

PDF-X-4-2010-NotAvailable-2.png

So check your color management settings and turn them on!

If done the standards PDF/X-4:2010, PDF/X-3:2003 and PDF/X-3:

2008 is the only one available on Adobe software. 2010 only has minor differences that in 99% of the cases make no difference. I even believe that those are present in what InDesign still calls 2008 (as memory serves me well 2010 support was added already in CS 5 or 6). You can use Layers in Adobes 2008 version.

Hello, I would like to ask whether it is possible to save PDF files in the PDF/X-4:2008 standard in the 2025 version of the inDesign software. I found that the software can only save PDF files in the PDF/X-4:2010 standard. Now I need to save files in the PDF/X-4:2008 standard. How can I save them?

Hi @Serene_Explorer5310 ,

I don't think it would make a difference if you save to PDF/X-4:2010.

May I ask you why you are asking?

I did not try this, but probably you can convert to PDF/X-4:2008 with Acrobat Pro's preflight functionality.

Can you explain why you specifically need the 2008 version?

All I know is that "for practical purposes, there are few differences between them":

https://www.automatizarpdf.com/en/the_pdfx_4_standard#:~:text=For%20practical%20purposes%2C%20there%...

The Preflight facility in Acrobat doesn't distinguish between PDF/X-4 2008 and 2010 (it's just PDF/X-4). Maybe some other even more specialized (and expensive) tools such as Pitstop or pdfToolbox can do this, you can check them out.
