photos not printing

I am using Indesign CC 2017.

Placing a photo in Indesign and either printing from Indesign, or creating a pdf, results in the photo showing and printing as a grey box.

If I print the photo directly from Photoshop though, prints the photo.

Any explanations?

    photos don't print

Checked the photo in photoshop and it was set to Baseline.

What I have just found, is that if I resave the photo then it prints. (small).

The original photo seems to take a longer time than normal to be placed. It's not a large file.

I'm stumped. Metadata was added to this group of photos, but I can't imagine that it would affect the useability of the files.

the pdf shows the original at the top and the resaved file at the bottom.

the good news, I guess, is that I should be able to resave all these photos, but I'd really like to find why they won't print.

Are these right out of the camera? If so, that could lead to issues, but I've never heard of them not printing.

But yeah, a batch action in Photoshop shouldn't be to hard to set up if you have a lot of these.

Check your print setting in graphics pane:

The OP also had a problem with pdfs. The setting highlighted below in the export to pdf dialog will result in the image appearing as a black box:

Unchecking it will allow the image to appear correctly in a pdf.

Perhaps the OP was printing to PDF.

What image format are you using (.psd, .tif, .jpeg, .png), how are you saving them, how are you bringing them into InDesign—are you placing them (the correct way) or copying and pasting them (not the correct way)? What OS are you using? Do the images look correct in the InDesign file?

the photos are being placed correctly (command D). I can place other items on the page and they print correctly.
