Place and link with style mapping

I used the place and link tool to make frames for the sections in the master

I manually changed each frame's paragraph style and had to set the text frame options to align centered vertically.

When I update the link, those edits are lost.

I have these link options checked but it doesn't seem to preserve them.

How can I make it so that only new text would be inherited but the formatting remains the same?

I also had to set up custom style mapping.
