I want to open a file written in Word 2019. I opened indesign to load the file. I searched for the 'place' command. And to my surprise 'place' commnd was extinct. What to do? Thanks.

Hi @Elishah98A5:

As per @Eugene Tyson, someone can hide a command, but perhaps you just overlooked it? That seems more likely.

You must have a document open before you can use the Place command...

You can customise the menus and shortcuts

https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/indesign/using/customize-menus-keyboard-shortcuts.html

The short cut for Place is Command D (control D on windows).

If you find there are other menu commands messing you can reset your preferences

The easiest way to reset everything is to delete the InDesign preferences: as soon as InDesign starts to boot hold down Shift, Alt, Ctrl (and Apple/Cmd if working on a Macintosh). A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.
