Hey community,

All of a sudden (overnight) my placed images started not showing up. To clarify, there is definitely images present, as when I click on the object I can see the size, move it around, see the "linked file" in the link bar. But it just isn't showing the image. I tried resetting my preferences, changing the display performance, restarting my computer and InDesign, linking the files from a different location, trying on different files, etc. I have read all the forums for similar issues but nothing is working. I am at a loss. Thanks so much for your help

FIGURED IT OUT. The files were originally in HEIC form. When I renamed them, they started showing up as jpgs, even though they were not formally converted. When i formally converted to JPG, it worked.

As an update: it appears that photos that are originally sourced from my desktop do show up when placed. But when I take the photo from dropbox and put it on my desktop to place it, it does not show up. I need it to be linked to dropbox, so moving everything to my desktop is not an option.

Hi, I am also having this issue. Thanks for sharing your troubleshooting on this.

My linked image assets are not showing up on my workspace while they are showing up in my pages panel.
Here is a screenshot of what I'm seeing. Any thoughts would be so helpful. TyScreenshot 2024-05-15 at 2.56.54 PM.png

Hi anav57428387,

Thanks for reaching out. It seems like your linked image assets are not displaying properly in your workspace. A common troubleshooting step for this issue is to try relinking the images. Sometimes, the link between the InDesign file and the image file can become corrupted or lost, causing the images not to display.

If relinking the images doesn't resolve the issue, another step we can take is to package the file. This will gather all the linked assets used in your document into one folder. Please zip the packaged folder and upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer, and then share the download link here or via DM with me. This will allow us to investigate the issue further and provide you with a solution.

Additionally, could you confirm if this issue is occurring only with this particular file or with all your InDesign files? Also, it would be helpful to know which version of InDesign you are using and where your files are saved.

Looking forward to your response so we can assist you further.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini
