PNG logo in Indesign is blurry

If someone could explain these solutions in a way a beginner could understand that would be amazing. Same thing - looks blurry in Acrobat. Certainly pulling a logo from illustrator to png to indesign should be one of the most straightforward things that can be done on CC? It's not Display Resolution, and I accounted for the size of the image in each (in inches not pixels).

I am having the same issue would someone be able to look at my file type?

Thanks for sending me the full file. I've got to be honest in that your best bet here is to request a vector version of that logo. Scaling that down gives it an effective ppi of 2515 and what's going to happen is that the PDF preset you're using will resample colour images (it's an RGB file) too 300ppi for anything over 450pi by default. You can mitigate that by changing the downsampling method (in the compression category in the export dialog) to Do Not Downsample but this will apply to all images in the PDF, so you may end up with a slightly larger file (which may/may not matter to you, but I thought I'd mention it).

Another downside of text as an image on a white background is the default PDF export compression is Automatic JPEG. JPEG compression is going to produce compression artifacts that would be hidden in a typical picture, but could show in a white background like this. If I zoom in on your #1 screen capture I can see the artifacts:

The PNG logo is 3000px wide and when I view it in Photoshop it looks fine, but when I scale it down in Indesign to 30mm wide the edges are blurry

When you scale an image (whether it's placed or pasted) the image pixels also get scaled (resized). If you place the png the scaled resolution will show as the Effective resolution in the links panel. If I place the PNG you posted and scale it down to 30mm the effective resolution increases to 1035ppi:

If I export the page using a default preset, the Compression tab setting is going to downsample the png image to 300ppi, or to less than 30% of the original resolution.

300ppi is generally enough for a typical "picture" image, but wouldn't necessarily be enough for text like this. The ideal would be to recreate the text so it is a vector and not an image. Otherwise you would have to change the settings in your PDF Compression tab to prevent the downsampling.

I believe the issue is that you are placing it in Indesign as scaled down to 30mm.

The pixels will be modified to be a 300dpi (or whatever dpi you are setting while exporting) to that 30mm.

So when you zoom in the PDF to check the you will be viewing at an approximate 700% of it's original size.

that's why you will see blurry edges.

I'm sure it will come out right when printed. "assuming the PNG is clean and clear on it's original 3000px"

Sorry you're having some problems with your logo.

Is there any chance we can have a look at the file you're trying to place? If you're worried about re-use, then chop it in half.
