I have created an infographic in Indesign and added clickable arrows that open up pop-up windows, and close the pop-ups with a close "X" icon. The pop-ups are working very well but the internal client does not want to close the pop-up windows by clicking on the X icon but DOES want the pop-up to close when one clicks on another arrow. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Is the clickable arrow triggering the pop-up as a multi-state object? Or is the clickable arrow showing the pop-up as a hidden element?

When I click on the arrow the pop-up is visible. When I click on the pop-up it is hidden until triggered. Did I answer your question?! Not sure what multi state means.

Multi-state buttons will not work successfully in interactive PDFs.

I am just going to say it's not possible, given the variables, thank you for responding to my rather vague description 🙂

Multi-state objects don't work in PDF so I'm guessing he's just hiding/showing a button. To the OP's question, you could include that window as an item to hide when the arrow is clicked.

This is possible to do. Before providing a method, I wanted to know how the interactivity was created: Multiple State Objects or Show/Hide. From your answer, it sounds like Show/Hide, but not sure. Could you provide a screen capture of ID document showing relevant panels?

Again, please note: MSO do NOT work in interactive PDF.

Sorry, I did not compute the term "PDF" when reading over the postings.

You can do this with Show/Hide buttons. That will work in many (but not all) PDF readers.
Every object has to be converted to a button. Then, the action is set to hide or show what you want for each button that will be active. When, for example, you click on button #2, set it to hide whatever button #1 was showing, but set it to show what's associated with button #2. Hope that makes sense.

Diane, we believe that is what he has now, the question was one button to toggle....

Patricia, Is this what you were looking for? This is an example of what I understood you wanted. If so, it's done with Show/Hide buttons. https://indd.adobe.com/view/b3c01a2e-c11f-4ccd-9300-8af3529ae9ec

Hi Diane, yes this is exactly what I need. Is there some tutorial that describes how this is done?

As already found, the functionality your client wants, when built from InDesign, requires Multi State Objects, which aren't reliable in PDF. It can be done, however, without InDesign MSO's, by adding Javascript in Acrobat DC. Let me know if you're interested in giving that a try.

Just to be clear..multi state buttons are supported but still wonky in many PDF readers. Multi state objects are not supported and do no work at all in any PDF.

@John_Mensinger, if my example reflects what this user is looking for, please note, for purposes of this thread, that the effect can be done with an MSO, but it can also be done with Show/Hide button, the technique I used. And buttons have the advantage of working in *some* PDF readers. Show/Hide is a feature that's been in InDesign for a zillion years, and its power is often overlooked. 🙂

Patricia,
There is no online tutorial that I know of. But I can send you the InDesign file I used, and am happy to help explain. I'll try to DM you and send the file, I don't see how to attach a file here, still figuring out the new forums. 🙂
