Possible to hide or resize the InDesign Control panel?

Premiere Pro offers the user lots of options as far as arranging, resizing, or hiding various panels. I just started using InDesign 2018, and I don't like how much vertical space the Control Panel takes up. The panel's controls offer the options of displaying it at the top or bottom of the document window or letting it float, but I want to collapse or hide it entirely, so the document window becomes larger. Is there a way to do this?

You can switch the control panel off and on in the Window menu.

another way is to press tab.

The TAB key will Show/Hide all panels, including the Control panel. Shift-Tab will Show/Hide all panels EXCEPT the Control panel and Tools panel.

If you want to make the Control panel display fewer items, click the menu on the far right of the Control panel, and choose Customize. That will allow you to pick and choose what you want displayed in the Control panel.

Showing less items won't make it smaller, though

(I'm rooting for a fully customizable Control Panel – you know, where one can drag items off and on and position them as you like. But it's context sensitive, so that may be a problem.)

… and Control-Alt-6 (Win) Cmd-Opt-6 (Mac) is the shortcut show/hide just the Control panel. If you don't like that shortcut, you can choose Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts. Choose Product Area: Window, and create your own keyboard shortcut that's convenient for you.
