When I copy and paste a vector image from Illustrator to Indesign, I get a white border.

Because how do I take it off?

Rather than Copy/Paste, use File > Place... and show import options. Set the crop to Art.

Never Copy and Paste Illustrator vector into InDesign. As Peter suggested, alway File > Place.

I wouldn't say never, but the times to do it would be pretty rare -- simple paths you will want to edit directly in InDesign (most of which you could probably draw in InDesign easily anyway).
