Publish online a book in one document. Is it possible?

Explorer ,
Jun 28, 2021 Jun 28, 2021

Here is the situation: regularly we have some publications with 200/300 pages. We work using books for chapters. So far... so good. At the end of each step we publish online for authors aproval.

To avoid sending separate chapters to authors, we merge all chapters into one single file. It takes time. Its not smart. Its unproductive.

Is there an option to Publish Online an entire book?

Any advice before I "fire" this client.

Sadly, no. You can only publish the single file version via Publish Online.

But this is a feature that has been requested many times. Please vote, or better, add a comment to User Voice, which Adobe monitors. Only way I know is to create a new file with same dimensions.

This is a script for multipage importer

Import each InDesign file to your new doc.

Hi Eugene,

placing PDF pages or even InDesign pages unfortunately is not the "magic bullet" to solve this issue.

There is a quality issue with text. And interactive elements will lose their interactivity.

With Publish Online:

When text is live on a page it is converted to SVG outline vector shapes.

All placed items, with the exception of placed SVG files perhaps, are rendered to pixel images.

Even with placed InDesign files?

I'm a bit shocked by that if it's true.

The only alternative then is to create a new document and move all the pages from each page into the new document.

https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/pages-spreads-1.html

Then publish it online.

Unless there's another easier more convenient way I don't know 🙂

"Even with placed InDesign files?"

Yes. Even with placed InDesign pages, Publish Online will render the pages to pixels only.

Also consider "living" TOCs, TOC that are able to link to the pages.

That is working with the export to PDF. It's not possible to maintain that kind of TOC when you place PDFs or InDesign pages.

I figured with the PDF placing.

I wasn't :hundred_points: sure on the InDesign file.

What year is this?
