Publish Online needs much improvement

I use 'publish online' regularly with gif enabled decks. There is so much low hanging fruit Adobe could be targeting to improve the features. Please comment if any of these already exist, otherwise I'm writing this as an open request to Adobe to look at the following:

1. Long, random links like indd.adobe.com/view/lkjbswdlkfhjbwljkdbhf-qwdljkbfcq don't look professional when sending presentations to client. Users already have unique Adobe profiles, surely it's not a big step to create links with the users businessname or custom titles?

2. GIFs! Why can't I preview how the gif plays while creating in indd, so tedious to have to publish and wait for the upload every time I want to see how the final presentation looks.

3. GIFs again! Since many clients want to download an offline version, why can't I choose the thumbnial of the gif that will be converted to a still image in the offline version. I'm at the mercy of whatever the first frame of the gif is which often is not the image I want.

4. Play or embed audio, wow this is practically impossible. I'm using indd to make multimedia presentations, the clumsiness of trying to embed a track from file, the 90's look of the player, the sheer frustration of the experience trying to put it into the document.

5. Full screen on mobile - there's no way to look at the full pdf without the URL bar hovering on top, taking up a lot of screen space. Please fix this!

Hi @williamarmstrongtv , I’m guessing that’s not as easy as you imagine to change, but it is possible to embed the Adobe URL in an iFrame tag and serve it from any domain. If you have your own web page and server, the initial linked address could be to your website—something like this where I have a folder at the root of my web server with an index.html containing an iFrame pointing to the Adobe URL:

http://www.zenodesign.com/GlassIce

The iFrame code:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<head>
<title> Title</title>

<!-- Styles-->
<style type="text/css">
	.vid-wrapper         {width:100%;height:100%;}
	.h_iframe .ratio {display:block;width:100%;height:auto;}
	.h_iframe iframe {position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%; height:100%;}
</style>
<!-- End Styles-->

</head>
<body>
	<div class="vid-wrapper">
    	<div class="h_iframe">
        	<img class="ratio" src=".../images/ratio.png"/>
        	<iframe src="https://indd.adobe.com/view/cff4e8c0-be49-45db-8069-f6fc466d9ce9" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen autoplay="true" ></iframe>
    	</div>
	</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>

For #5, there are a few ways that you can make your in5-exported content full screen on mobile when you export your InDesign layout with in5:

For #4, you can add audio or video in your InDesign layout that can be exported with in5. The in5 Video and Audio widgets also allow you to customize playback:

Good points, but in the meantime, have a look at the in5 InDesign plug (at extra cost):

Thanks @Derek Cross I saw this in another community post and just went through the intro video. Will give it a try, it doesn't look like it answers the gif issues but maybe allows publishing via my own site? Thanks for mentioning.

Yes, you can publish in5 documents on your own website and I should think it would be able to include animated GIFs (and more!).

One more, I'm going to echo what I'm seeing a lot of other people posting too:

6. Password protected links! I'm sending confidential information to clients, it needs to be secured, or I need to have the ability to change the password if I want to lock out previous viewers of the document. This is just a basic privacy feature that somehow hasn't arrived yet...

If you export your InDesign layout with in5, then there are a few ways that you can password protect the output:

Here is some information that addresses adding a password screen:
