Hello,

I am trying to create a QR code in indesign to be used as a Vcard for the phone. I have sucessgully created a QR code however I am unable to add 2 telephone numbers. When we input the number it does not show up in the code.

Does anyone know a solution to this predicament of mine?

Thanks

Clive

Correct answer Brad @ Roaring Mouse

InDesign's QR code generator generates v2.1 VCards, and apparently some newer phones/readers don't read the older phone number format that v2.1 writes.

If are using the standard ID Business Card QR template, if you hover over the QR code that is placed in your document, a pop-up should show the information included.

e.g. v2.1 vCard:

TEL;WORK;VOICE:000-000-0000

v3.0 vCards are written differently, and apparently many newer phones require v3.0 or newer

TEL;type=WORK;type=VOICE:000 000-0000

Outside of looking to a 3rd party QR code generator, you can find online v3.0 vCard generators, and paste that info into ID's QR Code "Plain Text" option.

In the meantime, add your voice to the feature request to update ID's QR code generator! (sorry, I don't have a link at the moment)

INCREIBLE!!!!

It is incredible that it generates the Indesign QR VCARD that cannot be read on Mac and Apple iPhone. You have an outdated builder in version 2.1, which doesn't work. They should be done in 3.0 to work with Apple products other than Android. Let's see if the Indesign programmers implement it already (which seems very easy to fix), or if they are not able to remove the generation of Vcards,... because imagine the cards printed with the useless QRs that are going to go to the trash, and the expense of redoing and reprinting them... INCREDIBLE!!!!

There is still no working solution for working Vcard QR-Codes for iPhone / iOS devices.

Adobe please Update Indesigns Vcard 2.1 to 3.0 or even better: 4.0.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I agree with @Brad @ Roaring Mouse's suggestions. In addition to that, you may check out this help article to know how you can manage your QR Code in InDesign.

To share your ideas/suggestions/bug requests, you may visit Adobe InDesign UserVoice. This forum is monitored by product team. They'll be happy to look into it.

It's a bit unclear what is going wrong - do you have any further details - screenshots? Sample file?

Whatever you put into the QR code should show up.
