Sorry, but I'm not certain of the correct terminology here. Believe that I want to set a bookmark (?) at a 'target' page; then, refer to that bookmark as in the subject line of this posting, and be assured that, as content of the document changes, the page number in the reference will always be up to-date. Hope that is clear. Any ideas appreciated.
What you want is called a "cross-reference." Here's the InDesign Help article on how to create them:

Thanks, Steve, but the response from inDesign Creative Cloud 2017.1 contains no green buttons as described in the linked resource; that is not what I see when I select Window | Type & Tables | Cross-References.
